Maya Bloch - opens solo show at the Jerusalem Artists House

We are delighted to announce the opening of the solo exhibition by Maya Bloch, ‘Fate May at Times Seem Abstract’, at the Jerusalem Artists House, curated by Drorit Gur Arie.

“ Overflowing, partly morbid, and ostensibly hanging by a thread, Maya Bloch's world touches the darkest recesses of the soul, and is at the same time infused with subtle black humor. The figures in her work suggest hallucinatory apparitions or layers of consciousness; emerging like ghosts that come out at night to dance on the canvases. Graphite works in gray-black offer a key. Partially exposed women with internal baggage seem to be keeping a secret in their bellies. Their postures appear painful at times. Bodies fold into bodies, heaped up. Their agony is evident. It is a death journey, perhaps a dirge.” text by Drorit Gur-Arie

The title of the exhibition, ‘Fate May at Times Seem Abstract’, is based on an excerpt from Yona Wallach poetry "A Picture Takes Shape before My Eyes" (Tel Aviv: Siman Kri'a/Hakibbutz Hameuchad, 1976) [Hebrew]; trans. Safra Nimrod.

There will be no official opening event.

Exhibition opens Saturday, 9 December 2023, and will be on through 10 February 2024; Opening hours: Monday - Thursday 10.00 - 18.00; Friday closed; Saturday 11.00 - 14.00
